The Best Food To Eat As A Muslim
Allah says:
“O People, Eat That Which Is Halal And Pure In The Earth, And Don’t Follow The Footsteps Of The Devil…”
[Al-Baqarah 2:168]
In this verse, Allah orders the whole of humanity to eat that which is halal and pure. As a muslim looking to improve, whatever you consume should fulfil these two conditions. It should be permissible and it should also be pure.
There are foodstuffs today which may be halal, however they contain the worst of ingredients. Try to avoid them especially if they cause harm to your body.
Notice how Allah immediately says straight after, “Don’t follow the footsteps of the devil.” Some of the scholars mention that haraam and impermissible nutrition affects a persons ability to follow the commandments of Allah.
Summary
People speak about the importance of nutrition. As a muslim, start with halal and tayyib (pure) before anything else.
Ponder Over The Verse
'‘The path of those whom you have favoured” (1:6)
Reflection
As a practising muslim, you may feel lonely, people may leave you, but don’t worry, Allah tells you that the best of people treaded the path you’re treading and you will eventually reunite with them in Jannah.
Buying And Selling On Credit
Aisha R.A said:
"The Messenger ﷺ bought food from a jewish man on credit and left his armour as collateral. [Bukhari]
This hadith contains many benefits
Imam Al Bukhari R.A puts this hadith under the “chapter of The Messenger ﷺ personally buying for his needs.” This indicates that there is no harm for a respected/prominent person in society to go to the market place in order to purchase that which they need.
The humbleness and humility of the best of creation ﷺ . He did not burden others when it came to his needs.
The permissibility of taking goods on credit with the promise to pay back later.
The permissibility of buying goods from non-muslims.
The permissibility of leaving an asset as collateral in case the buyer cannot pay for the goods.
Summary
When selling on credit, protect your rights by recording your transactions and asking for collateral in case the buyer cannot pay you back.
Practise Upon A Sunnah
The Messenger ﷺ would make wudhu with one mud (unit of measure) and bath with one sa’ (unit of measure). (Agreed Upon)
Some scholars estimate a mud to be roughly between 150-400ml and a sa’ to be between 600ml-1500ml. This shows you that the Prophet ﷺ did not waste water. Next time you make wudhu or bath, be conscious of the amount of water you use.
The Second Hijrah to Habasha
After the muslims settled in Habasha, it’s mentioned that some of them returned to Makkah a while later. Some say this was due to a rumour that Quraysh had accepted Islam. However this was false and eventually a larger group of muslims migrated for the second time to Habasha.
During this period of time, Quraysh had sent some of their most noble people to Najashi (King of Habasha) in order to convince him to return the muslims back to Makkah, however they were unsuccessful in convincing him.
In fact, Najashi according to most narrations accepted Islam as the true religion and allowed the muslims to live in safety. When he passed away, The Messenger ﷺ performed janazah salah upon him, even though he was not present. From this, some of the scholars derive that it is permissible to perform Janazah salah for a person who has died even if they may not be present.
Lesson
The early muslims faced a lot of difficulty and hardship in order to preserve their religion and in order for it to reach us. May Allah help us appreciate his bounties upon us and allow us to worship him in the best possible manner.
My Thought
Alhamdulilah we finished the first live event a few hours ago. It was about developing an unbreakable mindset. For those who were unable to attend, one lesson that stood out is, “It’s not about how many times you fall down but rather how quickly you pick yourself up.”
Everybody has set backs, things that don’t go their way, losses and even failures, but the most successful people don’t give up. They get up and try again.
If you found this beneficial, I would be grateful if you could share it with others and encourage them to subscribe
