Are You True To Yourself??

Allah says:

“Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or west, but true righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the last day, the angels, the book, the prophets and gives wealth in spite of love for it…”

[Al-Baqarah 2:177]

This verse shows us the difference between a person who claims righteousness and the one who actually lives it.

It’s very easy to make a claim and show outwardly that one is religious similar to the example Allah gives of facing the east or west, however true righteousness is in living with piety.

In this verse Allah mentions several different acts of worship. We could summarise them into 3 categories

1) Belief, thoughts and feelings in the heart (belief in Allah etc..)

2) Doing good deeds physically (giving charity etc…)

3) Maintaining your relationships with others (keeping promises etc…)

Take a moment to honestly ask yourself, “Are my beliefs just mere claims or do I actually live up to what I claim to believe.

Summary

Anybody can make a claim, but not everybody can live up to that claim

Ponder Over The Verse

'‘Those who believe in the unseen…” (2:3)

Reflection

Belief in the unseen is the first quality Allah uses to describe the believers in the Quran. There are many things in life that we do not have answers for nor do we know the reasoning behind, however as believers we submit and believe in what Allah and His Messenger have told us.

Working For Yourself

Aisha R.A said:

"The companions of The Messenger ﷺ used to work for themselves, and they would sweat, so it was said to them If only you bathed (before coming for friday prayer) ” [Bukhari]

This hadith contains many benefits

  • Imam Al Bukhari R.A puts this hadith under the chapter of “A man earning and working with his hands” This indicates that it is better for a person to work, even if it may be difficult and laborious instead of asking others.

  • From the companions of the Prophet were those who were skilled labourers and would work for themselves in order to earn.

  • The best generation were not shy to do work, even if it was difficult and required effort.

  • Before going to the masjid (more so on Friday) a man should ensure that they are presentable and smelling good especially if they are engaged in physically demanding work that leaves them with body odour.

Summary

A Muslim should always try to be presentable especially when coming to the house of Allah.

Practise Upon A Sunnah

The Messenger ﷺ said

Whoever makes wudhu like me and then performs two units of voluntary prayer, without being distracted , his sins will be forgiven. (Bukhari & Muslim)

In another narration “Paradise will be guaranteed for him” (Muslim)

The Death of Abu Talib

Abu Talib was the uncle of The Messenger ﷺ. Even though he did not believe, he protected and supported the Messenger ﷺ throughout his life.

He passed away in the tenth year after revelation. The Messenger ﷺ was extremely sad.

Allah revealed the verse “Verily, you cannot guide whom you love, it’s only Allah who guides whom He wishes”

Lesson

Guidance is only from Allah. Ask Him to guide you and keep you steadfast.

My Thought

I’ve been away for roughly two weeks. There were many things i learnt during my travel. I’ll mention one.

1) As you travel to different places you start to realise just how big the world actually is and how different people live their lives. This type of exposure helps you to become more understanding towards others. You realise that many a time there’s more than one correct way of doing things.

If you found this beneficial, I would be grateful if you could share it with others and encourage them to subscribe

If you have any general feedback, i would love to hear it. You can reply directly to this email.

See You Next Week إن شاء الله
