Religiosity at the expense of others

Allah says:

“Don’t eat one another’s wealth unjustly nor bribe the rulers (judges) in order to consume the wealth of others unlawfully while you know.”

[Al-Baqarah 2:188]

After mentioning some of the rulings of fasting, Allah warns against consuming the wealth of others unjustly.

Firstly, notice how this verse is mentioned straight after fasting. Similar to how a person abstains from food while fasting because it’s haram, they should abstain from oppressing others in any way, shape or form. The fast is supposed to instil within us taqwa, which helps us fulfil both, the rights of Allah as well as the rights of the creation.

Secondly, bribery, deception, oppression etc used in the court of law in order to usurp the wealth of others does not make it halal for a person, even if the ruling is passed in their favour.

Thirdly, using people in power, the judicial system etc in order to oppress others is a sin which is disliked by Allah.

Summary

Don’t be the person who claims to be apparently religious by fulfilling the rights of Allah, yet neglects the rights of the creation.

Ponder Over The Verse

'‘They have purchased misguidance with guidance… ” (2:16)

Reflection

There are those who give up the guidance given to them by Allah in order to pursue misguidance. Allah likens this to a transaction.

When a person transacts, there is an exchange that occurs. You give up something in order to attain something else.

It’s feared that the person who voluntarily gives up their guidance may never be able to get it back. May Allah guide us and keep us guided.

Interrupting The Sale of Others

The Messenger ﷺ said in a long hadith:

“…Do not sell over the sale of your brother” [Bukahri]

This is a portion of a long hadith which mentions some of the etiquettes of business.

This is referring to a buyer who is interested in buying from a seller. They are comfortable with one another and the buyer is about to make the purchase. As he is about to make the purchase, another seller interrupts the deal. This could be by offering a better price etc.

This is impermissible.

However, if the initial buyer and seller have no agreement, or the buyer is just researching a product/price in the market while having shown no commitment then there is no harm if another seller had to mention their product/price.

This also happens online today, where you maybe browsing a website for a product and the advert in the corner is advertising the same product on another website.

Summary

Some transactions are prohibited in Islam in order to maintain the unity and avoid bad blood among the people

Practise Upon A Sunnah

The Messenger ﷺ said

“When a person enters the masjid they should say, O Allah, open the doors of mercy for me.” (Nasa’i & Ibn Majah)

This hadith reminds us to ask Allah for his mercy before entering the place of prayer. It also shows us that the one seeking the Mercy of Allah, should be close to the masjid as well as their salah.

This salah is a direct connection between the slave and Allah.

Bay’atul Aqabah Al-Ula

In the 12th year after prophethood, Some of the people of Madinah came to perform hajj and meet The Messenger ﷺ.

They pledged allegiance to The Messenger ﷺ agreeing to certain conditions and guidelines which were set out.

As they were returning to Madinah, The Messenger ﷺ sent Mus’ab ibn Umayr R.A with them in order to teach them the Quran and matters of their religion.

After their return to Madinah, many people started to accept Islam. Men, women and children from almost every household amongst the Ansar were now Muslim.

Lesson

As the people of Makkah chose to reject the Message, Allah replaced them with the people of Madinah. Every noble endeavour has its people who are chosen by Allah.

My Thought:

Today I posted this:

“You'll never have ALL the resources, but you'll always have certain ADVANTAGES.

Play to your STRENGTHS. Make it COUNT.”

I feel this is true for everybody regardless of how much or how little you have. It is impossible to have every resource, however you find that those who are successful in their respective fields are resourceful.

Don’t fall into the trap of shying away from responsibility by blaming your lack of resources.

Rather, learn to become resourceful, make the most of what you’ve been blessed with and try to discover your advantages.

Question : If I read my witr after isha salah and then wake up at the time of tahajjud, do i have to repeat my witr and am i allowed to read any voluntary salah.

Answer: The answer is 2 fold

1) The witr does not have to be repeated as mentioned in some hadith “There is no double witr in the night”

2) You are allowed to perform voluntary salah in units of 2 upto the time of fajr.

If you found this beneficial, I would be grateful if you could share it with others and encourage them to subscribe

If you have any general feedback, i would love to hear it. You can reply directly to this email.
