Righteousness Or Innovation?

Righteousness Or Innovation?
Allah says:
“…It is not from righteousness to enter houses from the the back, but righteousness is in having Taqwa of Allah…”
[Al-Baqarah 2:189]
To understand this verse we need to understand the context. The people before Islam had the belief that those who were in a state of Ihram could not enter their houses or tents from the front door until they came out of ihram, so Allah revealed the verse.
The lesson we derive is, righteousness, acts of worship and good deeds are not derived from the whims, fancies and desires of people, but rather they are determined by Allah and His Messenger.
Building on this point, It is important that we worship Allah according to how He has instructed us and avoid the path of misguidance and innovation.
Summary
Every Innovation (in matters of the religion) Is Misguidance
Ponder Over The Verse
'‘O people, worship your Lord who created you and those before you, so you may attain Taqwa ” (2:21)
Reflection
This is the first verse in the Quran that Allah begins with “O People” everybody. Notice how the message reminds us of
- Our purpose in Life (Worship)
- Reminds us of death (by mentioning the previous nations)
- The benefit we attain from worship (Taqwa)
The Chain of Charity
The Messenger ﷺ said in a long hadith:
“If a woman gives charity from her husbands house without harm, she will be rewarded, and he will be rewarded for earning and the keeper (guard/helper) will also be rewarded” [Muslim]
This hadith has different wordings. Most of the wordings are speaking about a woman giving food in charity from her husbands earning.
There are a few important points to mention
1) The scholars mention that the charity she gives from her husbands food/earning should be with his permission or something he wouldn’t mind (e.g something small)
2) If a woman gives from her own wealth, then she can give whatever she feels like as this belongs to her.
3) This hadith encourages us to give charity even if it is in small amounts
4) The “keeper” in our times could refer to a helper, guard or anybody who plays a part in looking after or delivering the charity.
Summary
Everybody who plays a part in enabling charity is rewarded
Practise Upon A Sunnah
The Messenger ﷺ said: When leaving the masjid say:
“O Allah, I ask of your virtue” (Muslim)
As a person exits the masjid, he makes this dua, which reminds him that Allah is in charge and owns all the provisions he/she seeks.
The People of Madinah Meet The Messenger ﷺ For A Second Time
During the hajj of the 13th year after revelation, The Ansar (people of Madinah) met the Messenger ﷺ, as was agreed upon.
This time though, there were a lot more people. Roughly 70 men and 2 women. They had agreed to meet The Messenger ﷺ in secret.
Accompanying The Messenger ﷺ was his uncle Al-Abbass, even though he was not yet a muslim.
During this meeting, they agreed on many points and conditions and it served as the foundation for what would eventually be the foundation of a safe place the Muslims could move to and establish as their own.
Lesson
Between the initial meeting with the Ansar and the actual migration was about 3 - 4 years. A lot of important ideas require time to implement as well as meetings and discussion
My Thought:
Today is the first time, I’m writing this newsletter from the airport. I’m usually one to avoid editing/writing/posting etc during travel.
As I sit here thinking about most of the times I’ve put off writing the newsletter during travel, It’s usually due to the extra discomfort that comes with needing to write, research and have some of my notebooks with me that contain the topics I want to write about.
As I look at those who are able to get their work done regardless of their situation, you’ll find a lot of them have embraced the slight discomfort as well as inconvenience that comes with it. Everybody’s threshold is different.
The moral of the story for me is, “You need to get used to doing the slightly uncomfortable and inconvenient because it brings about growth.”
Question : I would like to learn about Islamic principles in Business
