Why Constantly Changing Your Goals Is Harming You
Allah says:
“And Complete Hajj and Umrah for Allah…”
[Al-Baqarah 2:196]
This verse contains an extremely important life lesson and that is the importance of completion, finishing off the worthwhile endeavours we begin.
Notice how Allah specifically uses the word “Complete” when speaking about these 2 acts of worship which are longer than most other acts of worship and require more sacrifice physically, mentally and monetarily.
In fact, the scholars mention that a person who begins a voluntary hajj or umrah, it becomes compulsory upon them to complete it.
This teaches us resilience and reminds us that everything worth pursuing contains some sort of hardship that is unavoidable.
A common trend today is people quit, give up or have shiny object syndrome (being distracted by a new goal) every time the going gets slightly tough. This constant change is a form of procrastination, avoidance and escaping of responsibility.
Summary
Most people give up on pursuing the goal because the going gets tough. They look for a new goal only to fall into the same trap later on. This vicious cycle repeats itself. Accept the hardship and sacrifice that comes with every goal you pursue and you’ll be ahead of most people.
Manners in The Marketplace
In a long hadith, Amr Ibn Al-Aas R.A was asked about the characteristics on The Messenger ﷺ in the Torah. From amongst the characteristics he mentioned:
“…He is not bad mannered nor is he harsh, nor does he scream in the marketplace…” [Bukhari]
From this hadith we learn:
The Messenger ﷺ had the best character and conduct.
The Messenger ﷺ would visit the marketplace and in turn would interact with the business community.
Every Muslim business person should maintain good character and conduct and speak in a way that is respectful.
When visiting the marketplace, avoid screaming, shouting and any mannerisms which are displeasing to Allah and display Islam in a bad light
Summary
In a world where good ethics, character and conduct are disregarded in the name of business, remember that The Messenger ﷺ maintained the best mannerisms in every aspect of his life.
Quranic Duas

If you’d like to download the full book which contains many duas and athkar, click here. It would also be beneficial for those looking for some islamic literature in the month of Ramadan
The Ansar
After building the masjid, The Messenger ﷺ paired the Muhaajiroon (people from Makkah) with The Ansar (People of Madinah).
The people of Makkah had left behind all their belongings and had nothing upon entering Madinah.
Allah describes the sincerity of the Ansar by saying, “they love those who migrated to them,..”
The Ansar were willing to sacrifice everything for their brothers from Makkah and Madinah became the hub where the Muslims settled.
Lesson
Help others in whatever capacity you can. The tough times will pass but the reward remains.
My Thought:
Alhamdulilah, the month of Ramadan has come to an end. Whether You’re celebrating Eid today, tomorrow or Tuesday, May Allah accept all our good deeds, bless us in this world and the next, and gather us in the highest part of Jannah.
Eid Mubarak
